Evolutionary biologist Martin Nowak and author Roger Highfield explain how cooperation and altruism fit into the larger evolutionary puzzle. Chaired by Jonathan Rowson.

The two pillars of evolution are mutation and natural selection: mutation generates diversity, and natural selection chooses the winner. The authors argue in this book, in order to get complexity, there is a third principle, co-operation.
